The Waverly girls track & field team won a second straight MHSAA Division 2 team Championship June 3 at Comstock Park while Olivia Theis of Lansing Catholic swept the distance races with two new state records.
The Warriors took the team title with 47 points as they swept the 4 x 200 and 4 x 100 relay events. Priscilla Trainor, Teaghan Thomas, Maya Garrett ad Jazlynn Wilcox captured the 800 relay with Tra’chele Roberts joining Trainor, Thomas and Garrett in taking the 400 relay. Trainor’s third place finish in the 200 and Malin Smith’s third in the shot picked top key points in Waverly state championship effort.
Lansing Catholic was runner-up to champion Adrian Madison in Division 3 with 41 points.
