A birdie from the sand trap on the 18th hole at Forest Akers East golf course by senior Geoffrey Croley helped power Dewitt to the MHSAA Boys Division 2 golf title June 5-6 at MSU. It was one a several key shots that gave the Panthers and coach Dave Koenigknecht a one shot win over Cranbrook 594-595, their third title in six years. Senior Owen Beyer shot a 5-under par 67 in the opening round for a 36-hole total of 142 to lead Dewitt, with Croley three shots back at 145 on rounds of 71-74. Freshman Joey Croley added a 153 (77-76), junior Ian Helm a 155 (75-80), and senior Mike Coscarelli a 160 (81-79).
