Veteran wrestling official Sam Davis of Lansing has received the MHSAA’s highest honor, the Vern Norris Award at the annual officials recognition banquet May 2 at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing. The Norris Award is presented to an athletic official with 20 or more years of registration with the MHSAA who works at the high school level. He or she must also have been active in a local officials’ association, mentored other officials, and have been involved in officials’ education.
Sam Davis meets and exceeds the aforementioned standards, having served the CAAC for many years, mentoring and training officials through the Lansing Wrestling Officials Association, and having been assigned to numerous MHSAA tournaments and State Finals. The award is named after former MHSAA Executive Director Vern Norris. On behalf of the CAAC and its coaches and athletes, our congratulations to Sam on receiving the prestigious Norris Award! Sam is the second Lansing area official to be so honored as Tom Minter of Okemos received the award in 2014 for his years of service in soccer and several other sports and his leadership in GLASRA.
